The Pope who became a pilgrim: Benedict’s resignation remembered :: Catholic News Agency (CNA)

Vatican City, Feb 28, 2015 / 10:30 am (CNA/EWTN News).-

Two years after his historic resignation from the papacy, Benedict XVI’s presence continues to be felt by those around him as he keeps his promise to remain in quiet and prayerful service to the Church and the world.

“We always know that Pope Emeritus Benedict is present in the Vatican, with his prayers,” said Fr. Scott Borgman, English-language official for the Pontifical Accademy for Life. This presence, he told CNA in a Feb. 10 email interview, “is a very reassuring affection which we experience often.”

At 8 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2013, Benedict XVI stepped down from the papal throne, less than three weeks after announcing his resignation to the world.

DHS suspends Obama order to delay immigrant deportations | TheHill

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is suspending President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, slamming the brakes on an expansion of deportation deferrals after an order from a federal judge.DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said he “strongly” disagrees with the move by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen to temporarily block the new programs, some of which were slated to begin Wednesday, but said the administration will let the legal process play out.
“The Department of Justice will appeal that temporary injunction; in the meantime, we recognize we must comply with it,” Johnson said.

Leonard Nimoy, who died at 83, gets Vulcan hand salute from Space Station | Fox News

A NASA astronaut on board the International Space Station tweeted a picture Saturday from orbit of a ‘Vulcan’ hand salute as a tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, known best for his ‘Star Trek’ role as ‘Mr. Spock.’

Nimoy, who died Friday at 83, of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at his Los Angeles home, with family at his side, said his son, Adam Nimoy.

His final public statement, last Sunday on Twitter, was thoughtful and bittersweet.

“A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory,” he wrote, followed by his customary “LLAP” signoff – shorthand for “Live long and prosper,” Spock’s catch phrase.

The reaction to his death was swift, on Earth and in space.

3-year-old dies after NW Harris County shooting – Houston Chronicle

I understand the argument that it is our Constitutional right to own a gun but stories like this just reinforces my determination never to have one in my home and that there should be some way to qualify those that do.

A 3-year-old boy died at the hospital after he was struck in what investigators characterized as an “accidental shooting” at his home in northwest Harris County.

Sheriff’s deputies said the incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Friday inside the two-story home in the 7400 block of Betanna near Elmont.

The boy, his mother, and another young sibling were the only ones in the house at the time.

The mother was in another part of the house when she heard a gunshot, officials said.
